FETHİYE Fethiye is a growing, multicultural tourist town that lies in the centre of Fethiye Bay. Remnants of a distant past are to be found in this ancient land where one of the worlds first peoples federation came to be.The Lycian's ferociously independent and proud nation, have left their trace with sarcophagus scattered throughout the streets and impressive house tombs perched high up in the clift, overlooking the city below. Using this spot as departure point, it is an excellent base for touring the inland countryside and adjacent Lycian settlements via the Lycian Trail. Fethiye is also in the vicinity of four of the ten best beaches in Turkey, this according to the Guardian newspaper (22 June 2010).
